Roadside Romeo

'Roadside Romeo' is Directed Jugal Hansraj. The director has come up with a regular Bollywood story but then a lot of credit actually goes into the presentation which was slick and trendy.

It's a regular love tale, where the animated lead characters are all dogs and then they have their friends in the form of cats. It begins with the happy go lucky and the luxurious living Romeo (Saif) who happens to be the pet dog of a rich owner but then as fate would have it, he is disowned and Romeo falls on the streets. Wandering on the streets, Romeo sees the mean side of life as he starts getting ridiculed by the regular pack of strays but then using his charm and intelligence, he makes friends with them and all of them start a saloon.

Things change when Romeo chances upon Laila (Kareena Kapoor) and it is love at first sight for both. However, there is a problem in the form of Charlie Anna (Javed Jaffrey) who happens to be the most feared don among the dogs and his eyes have already fallen on Laila. Now, Romeo has two things firstly, to win the heart of Laila and secondly protect himself from the anger and ferocity of Charlie Anna. And what happens hereafter is to be seen on the screen.

Presentation:
The narrative was a bit amateurish at few corners but overall, it was a good job. An excellent team of animation experts were at the job, the dialogues were witty, the characters were very well etched, the editing was crisp, music sounded suitable to the mood, camera was in tune with the animated format. Saif came out with an excellent vocal delivery and Kareena was sensuous enough. No two words about Javed Jaffrey, he was perfect as the bad dog. Suresh Menon was his regular comic self, Sanjay Mishra was good as a blunt dog, Tanaaz Currim was a revelation. Kiku Sharda got few laughs as well.
