Synopsis 'Traffic Signal' tells that tale of about 60 odd characters who have
their world centered on this place. Each of them have their own life
and how they make it happen on the road is what the film is all about.
A glimpse of the sceen caught when we stop our vehicle at a traffic signal or walking past it on the pavements and the reality of those who live their life at these signals leads to the story of 'Traffic Signal'. Those innumerous vendors, beggars, eunuchs, lepers, street kids, drug addicts, prostitutes, vendors etc. for whom an entire world is restricted to these signals.
Silsila a young orphan, who was born and who took his first tiny step at the signal is now its manager. For him the Signal is his workplace and a home where he lived. He's a sensitive soul with a heart of gold who considers the people like his family. He has a mentor, named Jaffar, who also is the collector of that region. Both work for the local Mafioso, Haji and would even lay down their lives for him. Inherent in the social structure, lies a nexus between the local Mafia and Politicians, though at that level Silsila is almost nonexistent. Yet by a force of circumstance Silsila gets drawn into the bigger game and finds himself to be responsible for the annihilation of his own world.
At this signal arrives Rani (Neetu Chandra), a girl of Gujarati origin,
who sells embroidery stuff on the pavements. Other important characters in the film are Upendra Limaye, a man who does 'rangoli' on the road. Konkana Sen is a night walker who is always surrounded by 2-3 men when she is on her job, whereas there is also a gay character who sells himself on the streets and hence turns out to be Konkana's competitor.
The trilogy of Mumbai centric movies after 'Chandni Bar' and
'Corporate' comes 'Traffic Signal', which as per director Bhandarkar
is a slice of life film with a lot of realism attached to it. Coming under the banner of Percept Picture Company and Bhandarkar Entertainment. Shamir Tandon has given music for 'Traffic Signal' and the movie is slated for release in the month of February.
