Synopsis:

'Kagaar' is directed by N. Chandra. The subject of the story is based on the life of a cop.It ventures into the psyche of an honest policeman. Debutante Amitabh Dayal plays the lead of a tough no nonsense cop opposite Nandita Das. The film is an endeavor to show the audience the laborious life of a cop and the duration of the movie is 120 minutes. It shows how he has to make many sacrifices while trying to secure peace and comfort for the citizens.
It is the story of Bhaskar Sarnaik (Amitabh Dayal) an honest cop who is ready to sacrifice anything if duty calls. He has killed seventy offenders in an encounter and this has fetched him a reputation that is tarnished when he is unable to catch a criminal named Ali. As the world is busy welcoming the arrival of the New Year, Bhaskar is playing a fatal game where the prey could become the slayer. For Bhaskar, Ali is not just an offender but also an old friend from the village. He remembers how Ali turned down his requests asking him to go back to the village. While Ali's frenzy has cost him a suspension, he has to settle the matter at any cost. He is unaware of the end he does not know whether he would be able to see the dawn of the New Year and go home where his wife waits for him. Thinking of his wife (Nandita Das) he recollects how ecstatic she was on the idea of marrying a cop. But her happiness is short-lived as soon she got accustomed to live in a small apartment and mostly without her husband. While waiting for his kill Bhaskar wanders in and out of his past as he is on a mortal combat the start of which is known but the end can be bloody, tragic and deadly. Summed up in a span of one-night Kagaar is a suspense thriller that has the music by Vishal Bharadwaj. The film also reveals that the cops and their families live on a double-edged sword that may wound of not handled with care. Om Puri has a vital role in the movie. The movie is expected to gain good response after it's release.
