Kamal and Singeetham Srinivasa Rao have done it again. Rajkamal Films International's Mumbai Xpress is a clean, comic package for the entire family, which showcases Kamal's versatility in story and dialogue writing too. 'Mumbai Xpress' has its moments with occasional good comedy scenes. But The film lacks an emotional thread that bonds the script.

Story:
Avinash (Kamal Hassan) is forced to join a group of small-time crooks who plan to kidnap the kid of a businessman for a hefty ransom in Mumbai. When others fail him, Avinash kidnaps another kid called Daddoo (Hardik) by mistake. Daddoo is the son of Ahalya (Manisha Koirala) who has illegitimate affair with the police commissioner (Nassar). Avinash receives a ransom of one crore for the kid he did not kidnap. But Avinash realizes his wrongful deeds and wants to correct them by returning the kid and the money he received. The rest of the story leads to a comedy of errors.

Performance:
Kamal Hassan is simply excellent. His comedy timing is wonderful and his histrionics are brilliant. It is a different kind of heroine that you see in Manisha Koirala. As the loving yet avaricious mother of a 10-year old, she is apt. The plump Hardhik is a pleasure to watch. If Ramesh Arvind in a humorous garb is a surprise, so is Nasser. Caricatures all right, but funny nevertheless. Dhina, the actor who appears as Sarala's husband, is stuck to the bed and still manages to make you chuckle.

Music:
Music is impressive. The theme song is a highly hum-worthy piece from Ilaiyaraja.
