Jannat isn't soft porn, says Kunal
US-returned debutant director Kunal Deshmukh’s, who has been associated with the Bhatts, is awaiting the release of his movie Jannat. The Bhatts have been known to make films with soft porn undertones, as claimed by critics (Raaz and Jism are testament). The trailers of Jannat also show a few intimate scenes. So naturally, Jannat might also be labelled as soft porn. Is Kunal skeptical about this? “Why would I make a movie on cricket or match-fixing if I wanted to make soft porn? Whatever little you see in the trailers is sensually done. There is nothing that could label it as soft porn," he explains.
Kunal has already been offered three films by the Bhatts and he has always been working only with them. "I am extremely comfortable working with them. They are there for you when you need them. Their expertise helps you a lot during the shoots. They are great pillars of support. Bhatt saab gives you a lot of creative freedom,” he elaborates.
How was it working with newcomer Sonal Chauhaan? "I was initially reluctant to work with her. Later I took it up as a challenge. I had to work hard with Sonal, which brought out the best in me as a director. The role was initially offered to Esha Deol but she could not do the movie due to date problems.” Good looking that he is, why did he choose to be a director and not an actor? “I find the job of an actor extremely boring and tiresome. I am happy being a director," he says. Kunal started his career as an assistant director for Zeher and Kalyug. Kunal is slightly nervous but he just wants to know what people think of his movie. What preparations has he been making for D-day? "Nothing much. I plan to party," he says.
