'Chak De India', 'Guru', 'Jab We Met' lead I.I.F.A nominations After bagging several awards back home, three mega Bollywood hits 'Chak De India' , 'Guru' and 'Jab We Met' are also leading in the nominations for the
prestigious l.I.F.A awards to be held in Bangkok in June this year. The nominations were announced by I.I.F.A Brand Ambassador and Bollywood mega
superstar Amitabh Bachchan at a function held in New Delhi on Tuesday.
"We started off very modestly but it (IIFA) has become a global celebration of Indian cinema bridging across cultures, tourism and people," the Big B said
announcing the nominations. The 9th International Indian Films Award function is being held in Bangkok from June 6 to 8 this year. Abhishek Bachchan ,
Akshay Kumar , Salman Khan , Shah Rukh Khan and Shahid Kapur were nominated in the best actor category while Aishwarya Rai , Kareena Kapoor ,
Deepika Padukone , Tabu and Vidya Balan were nominated in the best actress category. Nominees for the best director included Anurag Basu , David
Dhawan , Imtiaz Ali , Mani Ratnam , Priyadarshan and Shimit Amin.
Apart from ‘Guru’, ‘Chak De India’ and ‘Jab We Met’, 'Om Shanti Om' , 'Partner' and 'Metro' were nominated in the category for the best film. Surprisingly,
'Taare Zameen Par' did not receive any nominations as only those producers who had submitted their films to the I.I.F.A panel were considered. With a
viewership of almost 600 million, the I.I.F.A awards are among the world's most-watched entertainment events.
Speaking at the function Thailand's Ambassador to India Chirasak Thanesnant said, "I admire the effort taken by the I.I.F.A. Indian films are very popular in
Thailand. We hope the award function will increase the people to people contact between the two countries." Tuesday's function which was held in a city
mall, however, was marred by mismanagement as hundreds of people breached security and vied with each other to have a glimpse of the matinee idol –
Amitabh Bachchan. |
