Anuraag gets dream debut role
Co-star Anil Kapoor calls him a combination of Amitabh Bachchan and Naseeruddin Shah. Anuraag Sinha, who plays a closet-terrorist in Subhash Ghai’s 'Black & White', isn’t half as intense in person as he appears on screen. As nervous as any debutant though far less eager to be an overnight star, Anuraag laughs off his senior’s praise. "That’s very nice of Anilji. No, the compliments don’t make me swollen-headed. They just make my shoulder heavier. There are so many levels of expectations to be fulfilled my director, family , the film industry and finally myself. I’ve worked hard in Black & White. I don’t know how far I’ve succeeded. At the trials people seem to like me. But I’ve not seen the film yet. I want to watch it with everyone else at a public screening."
He’s all praise for his Black & White co-stars."All of them Anil Kapoor, Shefali Shah and my heroine Aditi Sharma have been very helpful. Subhashji and Anilji are so experienced. They made me feel very comfortable. Not once did I or Aditi feel like newcomers.” Pre-empting the oft-asked query, he says, "And I don’t have a girlfriend. Boring as it may seem, my only passion right now is acting."
Surprisingly there was no struggle to get a role."I was prepared to struggle. I was ready to give up my dreams. But Mumbai has been very kind to me. Within three months of being in Mumbai I got a call from Mukta Arts saying Mr Ghai wanted to meet me. He had seen my photographs and he thought I was right for the part. He narrated the subject and I was hooked. Never had I dreamt that I’d start with a film directed by Subhash Ghai."
And now he isn’t signing any films."I’ve been patiently waiting for the release of 'Black & White'. I’m going to be even more patient now. I’m aware mine isn’t a conventional launch. I don’t have six romantic songs and five item numbers to perform in my debut film. But I don’t want to classify scripts as conventional or unconventional. For me the only criterion is that the script should interest me.” Anuraag has signed a five-film deal with Mukta Arts. “Yes, there are offers from the outside. But I’m not thinking beyond Black & White right now."
