'Eklavya' is one of the finest films to come out of the Hindi film industry. It is directed by Vidhu Vinod
Chopra, who gave many superhits in the past. 'Eklavya' is his bravest attempt so far. It is indeed a difficult
film to make. He needs special applauds for churning out such a movie.
Eklavya (Amitabh Bachchan), the royal guard of Devigarh, lives in a time warp. He has spent his entire life
serving the royals. On the sudden demise of the queen, Rani Suhasinidevi (Sharmila Tagore), the heir
prince Harshwardhan (Saif Ali Khan) returns back to the kingdom. His return brings a rush of joy into the
moribund fort. His mentally challenged twin sister, princess Nandini (Raima Sen) and his childhood love,
Rajjo (Vidya Balan) are delighted to see him. But the joy lasts in a short while. The king, Rana
Jaywardhan (Boman Irani) receives a death threat over the phone.
An irreverent police officer, Pannalal Chohar (Sanjay Dutt), is called in to investigate. But he might be too
late. The fragile peace of the land is suddenly shattered by a barrage of bullets. And amidst this, the
safely guarded secrets of the fort are unveiled. What happens hereafter is to be seen on the
screen.
Performance:
Amitabh Bachchan does an excellent job. Every emotion he displays is simply incredible. Saif goes to the
peak of his career. He deserves praise for his performance. Sanjay Dutt has a breif but a pivotal role.
Vidya Balan is superb yet again. Boman Irani is first-rate. Sharmila Tagore's role is impressive. Jackie
Shroff does well as the king's brother. Jimmy Shergill plays a negative role in an efficient manner. Raima
Sen leaves a mark in a significant role. The others did upto the content. Music by Shantanu Moitra is
pleasant. Cinematography is fantastic. Dialogues are good. Stunts are of first-rate. Story and direction
forms the main heart of the film. The film has high production values.
