Don Muthuswami

'Don Muthuswami' is Directed by Ashim Samanta. The director wanted to come out with a healthy comedy with twists but then he has lost out on many factors like the narration and pesentation of the whole subject. Director's effort to revive his father's banner(Samanta Movies Pvt Ltd) but then he must be sure to follow the basics of film making correctly especially when it comes to comedy flicks. Despite some good cast, the film just did not have the right flavour or the presentation to make it click. Even the other departments have let the movie down in a big way and right from the word 'go' the movie goes on at its own speed adding further confusions on the way.

A boring treat, the film begins with the dreaded gangster 'Don Muthuswami' (Mithun), who is known for his ruthless treatment and spreading fear amongst the public. However, all this evaporates since Muthu's father is on his death bed and seconds before his death he takes promise from the don that he would call it quits and start a new life as a good and helping man. With not much choice around, Muthu says yes, which sends his henchmen's heads spinning. Fun starts with Don Muthuswami trying to convert into Sir Muthuswami and his trouble increases when he wants to see his darling daughter Sanjana (Hrishita) get married to the son of another don and she is not at all happy with that idea.

She fakes that she is pregnant to avoid the wedding and on the other hand there is Pritam (Rohit Roy) the don's manager who has his heart out for Sanjana. Pritam gets competition in the form of Jaikishan (Mohit Raina), the Hindi pandit, who comes to teach the don about Hindi and falls for Sanjana. Last but not the least, there are the cops who are sniffing around to see if the don really has gone from bad to good or is there something else And what happens hereafter is to be seen on the screen.

Performances:
'Don Muthuswami' belongs to Mithun Chakraborty, Hrishita Bhatt, Shakti Kapoor. The story could have been a lot better if there was focus on the script and the screenplay. Even the music was horrendous with some trash numbers and really annoying background noise. The editing could have been crisp and the camera work was just about okay. Mithun has tried his level best to bring some life into the movie which he partly did but then his role was so weakly etched that he could not do much apart from that. Hrishita Bhatt was not upto the mark and so were Shakti Kapoor and Mohit Raina, who were bare minimal. Rohit roy carried out his role with grace but the real show stealer was Vishal Kotian, who came up with some good sense of humor and timing. And the music is composed by Anu Malik. It is adequate. Cinematography Harish Joshi is not up to themark. The others were below average.

Verdict:Average
